More Than “Just PMS"

Living With PMDD Can Feel Isolating. Support Can Change That.

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) is a severe mood disorder linked to the menstrual cycle. If you experience intense emotional and relational changes during the weeks before your period, you are not alone—you are not weak, “too sensitive,” or failing the people you love.

When your cycle makes you feel unfamiliar

Like PMS, PMDD symptoms typically emerge after ovulation and improve shortly after menstruation begins. But with PMDD, the intensity can be dramatically different.

PMDD affects approximately 3–8% of women and is recognized as a legitimate mental health condition.

Women with PMDD often describe feeling as though they become a different person for part of every month.

The symptoms can be severe enough to affect:

  • Marriage and intimate relationships

  • Parenting

  • Friendships

  • Work performance

  • Emotional wellbeing

  • Daily functioning

And when the symptoms lift, you may find yourself wondering:

“Why did I react that way?”

“Why couldn't I control my emotions?”

“Why do I feel like myself again now?”

Many women with PMDD spend years believing they have depression, anxiety, anger issues, burnout—or simply a personal weakness.

They may seek answers without realizing that their symptoms are connected to their menstrual cycle.

Understanding the connection between your cycle, emotions, relationships, and functioning can be an important first step toward feeling more in control.

You deserve support that takes your experience seriously.

Common emotional symptoms of PMDD

PMDD can affect emotions, thoughts, relationships, and your ability to manage everyday life.

You may experience:

  • Severe irritability

  • Intense anger or rage

  • Significant anxiety

  • Panic attacks

  • Feelings of hopelessness

  • Depression

  • Emotional overwhelm

  • Increased conflict with loved ones

  • Extreme sensitivity to rejection

  • Feelings of worthlessness

  • Difficulty controlling emotions

During the luteal phase, emotional reactions can feel much stronger than usual.

You may say things you later regret, withdraw from people you love, feel overwhelmed by ordinary demands, or wonder why your reactions seem so difficult to control.

And then your period comes.

You may feel relief.

You may feel more like yourself again.

You may also feel guilt, shame, confusion, or sadness about what happened during the weeks before.

You don't have to navigate that cycle alone.

For mothers, PMDD can be especially painful

When you're a mother, the emotional impact of PMDD can feel particularly heavy.

You may find yourself more easily overwhelmed by parenting demands, more reactive with your children, or struggling with guilt after an argument or difficult day.

You may love your family deeply while still feeling like your emotions are sometimes beyond your control.

Both things can be true.

A group for real support

Our 6-week PMDD Group Therapy Program provides a supportive space for women who are navigating the emotional and relational challenges of PMDD.

Each week, you'll have 75 minutes to connect, reflect, learn, and share with others who understand the unique experience of cyclical mood symptoms.

In the group, your individual experience matters.

We know that everyone's PMDD looks differently.

Your symptoms, relationships, cycle, coping strategies, and challenges are uniquely yours. The group provides space to explore those experiences while learning from the perspectives of others.

This group offers a space to talk openly about the experience of parenting with PMDD—without judgment or shame.
